Let the games begin! Belfast, Northern Ireland… Besides home to the filming of Game of Thrones, it is known for the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard where the RMS Titanic was built.
Our first stop is the World Heritage Site Giant’s Causeway. What is unique is its basalt columns formed after a volcanic eruption. It is the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom with column that are mostly hexagonal.
While is the same location, I incorporated different tones to reflect the character. Cooler blue tones looking out to the ocean, while warmer tones for the mountain. The formed column serves as stepping stones that lead from the cliff all the way to the edge of the sea.
Our next stop is the Dark Hedges. Become a tourist attraction after being used in Game of Thrones as the King’s Road.
Gorgeous fields and hills along the causeway…
Then off to Carrick a Rede and Dunluce Castle.
The next day, its the Peace Bridge and Belfast Castle as well as its Cat Garden.
Swung by Stormont Parliament Building and then Victoria Square.
Day three highlighted the Titanic Belfast and Harland & Wolff shipyard.
Its unique architecture serves as the modern museum that reminds us of Titanic. In the background, you will also so the great yellow gantry crane. There are two of these, Samson and Goliath, both icons of Belfast.
After a sumptuous lunch, we are off to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, the official residence of the royal family when they’re in Northern Ireland and has also been home to the Secretary of State since the 1970s.
We end the day at Castle Ward, location shoot for Winterfell of Game of Throne series.
Truly a medieval experience, Game of Thrones-style.
I spent the next day doing some shopping and ended the day with the Belfast City Hall.
Having passed by it several times, I knew I had to shot this last. Its lights shone and enhanced its architecture, truly a reflection of Belfast. At around 9 or 10pm, there were almost no one around. It made me smile and say a proper goodbye to Belfast. Thanks for a nice time!
Have a great week ahead!
